Park Christian eliminates Braves from 6A tourney

Menahga's volleyball season came to an end with a 3-0 loss in a Section 6A North quarterfinal match.

Karley Motschenbacher pounded down 14 kills in leading Park Christian to a 3-0 win over Menahga in a Section 6A North volleyball match at Moorhead on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Regan Nelson added eight kills, Allison Lien had 12 digs and Regan Anderson served three aces in the Falcons’ 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 victory. Park Christian, the No. 2 seed, improved to 22-3.

Janie Tormanen (7), Elly Hillukka (5) and Tara Hendrickson (4) combined for 16 of Menahga’s 21 kills with Annie Lake setting up 18 of those kills. The Braves had 18 hitting errors in the match. Rena Pinoniemi led Menahga with 12 digs while Maryn Pinoniemi (9), Jessica Pietila (7) and Lake (6) combined for 22 digs as the No. 7-seeded Braves end the season with an 8-15 record.

In the other Section 6A North first-round matches on Oct. 21, No. 8 Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal defeated No. 9 Rothsay (25-20, 25-14, 25-18), No. 5 Frazee eliminated No. 12 Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (25-9, 25-12, 25-22) and No. 11 Lake Park-Audubon upset No. 6 Sebeka (25-20, 25-18, 14-25, 14-25, 15-9).

The other North quarterfinal matches on Oct. 23 saw No. 1 Wadena-Deer Creek eliminate NCE/UH (25-22, 25-15, 25-12), Frazee defeat No. 4 Barnesville (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21) and No. 3 New York Mills defeat LP-A (25-21, 25-14, 25-10).
