Panthers' winning streak continues

The Park Rapids girls swimming and diving team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 108-36 victory over Crookston.

Despite competing against a shorthanded Crookston squad, head coach Todd Fritze was impressed with the times turned in by the Park Rapids girls swimming and diving team during a dual meet at the Area High School pool on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The Panthers went 1-2-3 in six events, went 1-2 in the first two relays and took first in diving before swimming exhibition in the final three events in coasting to a 108-36 victory. The win gave Park Rapids a four-meet winning streak and a 4-1 overall record this season.

Maria Wagner, Massie Lee, Savana Damar and Ellie Ulvin won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:07.72 while Addison Lauwagie, Gabi Shepersky, Analise Smee and Lizzie Seifert followed in 2:10.33 as the Panthers jumped out to a 12-2 lead.

The Panthers went 1-2-3 in the next three events. Emma Vrieze won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.92 while Aleah Voigt (2:09.13) and Ameila Bagstad (2:23.46) followed. In the 200 individual medley, Ulvin led the way with a 2:32.93 with Lee (2:35.21) and Smee (2:35.47) following. Lauwagie (27.13), Damar (28.50) and Maya Deshayes (29.32) set the pace in the 50 freestyle. Those showings gave Park Rapids a 51-10 advantage.

After Brielle Krabbenhoft took first in diving with 143.20 points, the Panthers swept the next three events.

Damar clocked a winning time of 1:11.54, Bagstad was second in 1:18.22 and Claire Voigt finished third in 1:19.58 in the 100 butterfly. In the 100 freestyle, Seifert took first in 1:00.83 while Smee (1:04.48) and Mylee Edevold (1:05.00) completed the 1-2-3 finish. Aleah Voigt’s 5:46.17 edged out Vrieze’s 5:46.25 in the 500 freestyle with Lee taking third in 6:16.84.

Park Rapids posted a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay with Damar, Seifert, Bagstad and Vrieze teaming for a 1:52.86 and Lauwagie, Deshayes, Edevold and Aleah Voigt taking second in 1:54.65.

The Panthers, who built a 108-20 advantage, swam exhibition in the final three races in this dual between Section 8A teams.

Lauwagie would have placed first in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.19 and the Panthers would have gone 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke behind Shepersky’s 1:21.52, Nora Cederstrom’s 1:23.71 and Ulvin’s 1:25.34. Vrieze, Seifert, Bagstad and Lee clocked a 4:06.25 while Aleah Voigt, Smee, Deshayes and Ulvin followed in 4:06.39 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Pirates, who competed with only eight swimmers, fell to 0-5 in dual meets.

Park Rapids also coasted to an 86-5 victory in the junior varsity meet.
