Winning four matches in third-set tiebreakers solidified Park Rapids' position for the upcoming Section 8A girls tennis tournament.
The Panthers won two doubles matches in tiebreakers in a 5-2 win over Crookston and won a pair of matches in tiebreakers in a 5-2 victory over Roseau on Sept. 29 at Crookston to improve to 6-1 against section rivals.
In the win over Crookston, Natalie Kinkel lost only one game at No. 1 singles, Abby Morris lost only two games at No. 2 singles and Kendra Coborn lost four games at No. 3 singles. Gracie Eischens and Mickey Clark prevailed 8-6 in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles while Madison Johnson and Meagan Powers prevailed 7-3 in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles. Park Rapids also defeated the Pirates 5-2 earlier in the season.
A sweep in singles sparked the Panthers past Roseau. Kinkel lost only one game at No. 1 singles, Morris didn't drop a game at No. 2 singles, Coborn lost four games at No. 3 singles and Clark prevailed with a 10-6 win in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles. Eischens and Rachael Herman prevailed 10-6 in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles while Madison Johnson and Powers lost in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.
Crookston defeated Roseau 5-2 in the other match.

Patriots defeat Panthers
Pequot Lakes locked up an undefeated record in Mid-State Conference play with a 6-1 win over the Panthers Tuesday afternoon at Pequot Lakes.
Coborn and Morris teamed up to win a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to account for Park Rapids' lone victory. The Patriots won the other six matches in straight sets.
Pequot Lakes, which defeated the Panthers 5-2 earlier in the season, improved to 5-0 in conference matches and 20-1 overall. The Patriots' only loss this season was a 4-3 setback to Osakis in the season opener back on Aug. 18. Park Rapids fell to 3-3 in the conference and 11-7 overall.
