Panthers soar past Flyers

Eleven players reached the scoring column as the Park Rapids girls basketball team coasted to a 75-23 win over Bagley.

Eleven players entered the scoring column as the Park Rapids girls basketball team coasted to a 75-23 victory over Bagley at the Area High School gym on Dec. 20.

The Panthers took control early by jumping out to a 24-2 lead in improving to 2-3 against Section 8AA opponents this season.

Jumpers by Mickey Clark and Brooke Knutson and a basket off a rebound by Maddie Soldwisch produced a 6-0 lead at the 13:42 mark before the Panthers followed a jumper by Bagley’s Hillary Maurska with an 18-0 run. Rilee Michaelson scored off a rebound and hit a jumper, Katie Burlingame connected on a jumper, Hannah Morgan hit a 3-pointer and scored on a pair of layups, and Michaelson made two jumpers as Park Rapids led 24-2 with 7:12 to play in the first half.

Olivia Davis and Morgan scored off rebounds and Michaelson converted a three-point play as the Panthers led 35-10 at the 2:07 mark before layups by Tori Weaver, Morgan and Michaelson made it 42-12 at the half.

Ari Borge’s 3-pointer, two layups by Soldwisch, and a layup by Michaelson extended the advantage to 53-18 with 13:38 to play before the Panthers went on a 16-2 run as a jumper and a layup by Michaelson, a layup off a steal by Abby Morris, a jumper by Soldwisch, two layups by Morgan, a layup by Weaver, a jumper by Knutson and a jumper by Holly Johnson pushed the lead to 71-21 with 6:27 remaining.

Michaelson led the Panthers with 19 points while Morgan scored 15 and Soldwisch finished with 10. The win lifted Park Rapids’ overall record to 3-7.

After opening the season with two forfeit losses, the Flyers have been outscored by an average score of 80.5 to 27.2 in falling to 0-3 against section opponents and 0-8 overall.
