The Park Rapids 18U JO volleyball team concluded the summer schedule by taking runner-up honors at Monday's Park Rapids Summer League Tournament at the Century School gym.
This marked the first year that Park Rapids has hosted a summer volleyball league. Eight teams competed in the tournament with Bemidji Blue, the No. 1 seed, defeating Park Rapids, the No. 2 seed, 25-18, 16-25, 15-8 in the title match. Park Rapids opened with a 25-19, 25-15 win over No. 7 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley before defeating No. 3 Sebeka in three sets in the semifinals.
Bemidji Blue led the regular-season standings after four weeks of play with an 8-0 record. Park Rapids and Sebeka finished at 6-2 while Bemidji White went 5-3. Pine River-Backus (3-5), Menahga (2-6), Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (1-7) and Laporte (0-8) followed.
During the regular season, Park Rapids defeated Nevis (25-17-25-23), Laporte (25-17, 25-17), Sebeka (25-22, 25-16), Menahga (25-16, 25-20), W-H-A (25-17, 15-14) and PR-B (25-17, 25-19) while losing matches to Bemidji White (25-20, 25-22) and Bemidji Blue (25-16, 25-18).
