Led by Morgan Koppelman’s runner-up finish in all-around, the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis gymnastics team closed out the regular season on a high note.
Koppelman took first place on balance beam with a season high of 8.95 in posting a season high 33.40 all-around score in the Panthers’ 132.80-124.80 loss at Fergus Falls in the regular-season finale on Friday, March 12. That was the Panthers’ highest team score of the season, surpassing the 122.80 in the season opener.
Halle Landstrom tied for second on beam with an 8.55 while Shailyn Hayes’ 7.05 and Natalie Backmann’s 5.85 led the Panthers to a 30.40 team score in that event. Abby Kirlin added a 5.25.
Koppelman and Kirlin received 8.50s, Emma Berghuis had an 8.40, and Natalie Berghuis and Landstrom received 8.35s in vault to give Park Rapids a 33.75 team score. Fergus Falls’ Ashlyn Fronning and Aubrey Seedorf led the way with 8.95s.
The Panthers received a 32.15 in floor exercise behind Landstrom’s 8.55, Koppelman’s 8.35, Emma Berghuis’ 7.80 and Natalie Berghuis’ 7.45. Rachel Ulvin added a 6.80 as Fronning took first with a 9.10.

Koppelman’s 7.60, Landstrom’s 7.35, Ally Holmer’s 6.80 and Erica Johnson’s 6.75, along with Backmann’s 6.00, gave the Panthers a 28.50 on uneven parallel bars. Madison Muchow had the top score of 8.10.
Fergus Falls had scores of 35.50 in vault, 35.20 in floor, 31.60 on bars and 30.50 on beam. Fronning claimed the all-around title with a 34.60 while Landstrom was third with a 32.80 as the Panthers ended their dual schedule with a 3-7 record. The Otters also won the junior varsity meet by a 119.50-100.60 margin.
Park Rapids will compete in the Section 8A meet at Melrose on Saturday, March 20.
