Bemidji used a 1-2-4 showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay to rally to win Saturday’s Section 8A True Team girls swimming and diving meet at Bemidji.
That showing gave Bemidji 1,216 points to edge Detroit Lakes’ 1,206 for the team title. Park Rapids finished third in this eight-team meet with 1,137 points.
In the True Team format, every team can enter four entrants in each event and all finishers score points. Park Rapids scored 150 points in the 200 medley relay, 72 points in the 200 freestyle, 66 points in the 200 individual medley, 93 points in the 50 freestyle, 98 points in diving, 90 points in the 100 butterfly, 74 points in the 100 freestyle, 80 points in the 500 freestyle, 128 points in the 200 freestyle relay, 67 points in the 100 backstroke, 83 points in the 100 breaststroke and 136 points in the 400 freestyle relay.
Park Rapids had three first-place finishes. Paige Fritze, Kayla Andersen, Tea Nyland and Lauren Rossman opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:58.40. Nyland led the field in the 100 butterfly with a 1:03.60 and Andersen took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.96.
Rossman added a runner-up 58.38 in the 100 freestyle while Nyland was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.51 and Fritze finished third in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.51. Andersen, Fritze, Alyza Edevold and Rossman also took third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.35.

Other top efforts for the Panthers included Edevold in the 200 freestyle (fourth in 2:18.77) and 100 butterfly (fourth in 1:10.59); Rossman (fourth in 26.65) and Andersen (sixth in 27.13) in the 50 freestyle; Fritze in the 100 freestyle (fourth in 59.60); Hovelsrud in the 100 breaststroke (fifth in 1:19.74); and Nyland, Trinah Szafranski, Carly Waggoner and Edevold in the 400 freestyle relay (fifth in 4:14.98).
Placing in the top 10 spots for the Panthers were Szafranski in the 50 freestyle (ninth in 28.84) and 500 freestyle (eighth in 6:23.22); Jada Current (seventh with 299.05 points), Katie Eischens (eighth with 284.00 points), Caroline Drury (ninth with 252.45 points) and Lexi Stevenson (10th with 229.65 points) in diving; and Isabella Simonson in the 100 backstroke (eighth in 1:13.72).
