Panthers finish second, third at May Day meet

Led by a winning effort in the 4 x 400-meter relay team and Scott Wolff's winning effort in the triple jump, the Park Rapids boys track and field team finished third at Friday's May Day Invitational at Walker.

Brock Fritze, Austin Carlson, Forrest Drury and Herman Stieng won the 4 x 400 relay in 3:41.74 and Wolff won the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 4 inches in leading the Panthers to 84 points in this 11-team meet. Pequot Lakes won the boys title with 135 points while Frazee finished second with 106 points.

Carlson clocked a runner-up 53.74 in the 400 dash and joined Fritze, Drury and Stieng with a runner-up 1:37.17 in the 4 x 200 relay.

In the girls meet, Grace Bateman won the 300 hurdles in 51.14 and the pole vault by clearing 8 feet in leading the short-handed Panthers to runner-up honors with 107 points. Pequot Lakes led the 10-team field with 125 points.

Adding runner-up finishes for the Panthers were the 4 x 800 relay team of Bria Wolff, Morgan Olson, Mandy Schirmers and Katherine Erickson (11:16.78) and the 4 x 100 relay team of Justine Rittgers, Jenna Polley, Bateman and Hannah Gorder (54.34). Ellen Hoffman also took second in the pole vault by clearing 7-6.

Nevis finished seventh in the boys meet with 55 points as Stephen Keezer, Matt Gustafson, Shawn Anglin and Sean Howes won the 4 x 200 relay in 1:35.84 and took second in the 4 x 100 relay in 53.74. Keezer also finished second in the 200 dash in 23.65 and Jordan Feder took second in the high jump by clearing 5-8.

In the girls meet, Riley Hanson won the 400 dash in 1:02.71 and Annessa Feder took first in the high jump by clearing 4-10 as Nevis finished seventh with 49 points. Paige Walters added runner-up showings in the 100 dash (13.34) and 200 dash (27.36) for the Tigers.
