Panthers finish 3rd, 8th at May Day meet

Abby Mueller took first in the 200-meter dash and the 4 x 800 relay team led the field in leading the Park Rapids girls track and field team to third place at Friday's Walker May Day Invitational.

Tayah Otterness tied for sixth place by clearing 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump at Friday’s May Day Invitational at Walker.

     Abby Mueller took first in the 200-meter dash and the 4 x 800 relay team led the field in leading the Park Rapids girls track and field team to third place at Friday’s Walker May Day Invitational.

     Mueller clocked a 27.08 to win the 200 while Madison Steffel, Megan Olson, Tori Hilmanowski and Lydia Kantonen teamed up for a winning time of 10:31.99 in the 4 x 800 relay as the Panthers compiled 119 points. International Falls took first with 154 points while Bagley/Fosston was second with 133.50 points. Nevis, behind Angel Wolf’s winning time of 13.59 in the 100 dash, finished eighth in this 11-team meet with 28 points.

     Adding runner-up showings for the Panthers were Steffel in the 3,200 (13:23.87); Megan Grimes in the 100 hurdles (17.37); the 4 x 100 relay team of Grimes, Mueller, Paige Hill and Fenja Boesch (52.96); and the 4 x 400 relay team of Mueller, Olson, Ellery Overmyer and Grimes (4:19.48). Grimes also tied for second in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 10 inches.

     Placing third for the Panthers were Hilmanowski in the 400 (1:09.64), Olson in the 1,600 (5:45.84) and Kayla Johnk in the shot put (29-9).

     In the boys meet, third-place efforts by Adam Jacobi in the 3,200 (11:58.80)  and the 4 x 400 relay team of Per Jorgenson, Remington Hagan, Tristan Breitweser and Spencer Adolphson (3:56.17) led the Panthers to eighth place with 55.50 points. International Falls took first with 110.50 points while Nevis, behind Kiefer Miller’s runner-up toss of 124-2 in the discus, was 10th with 13 points.
