Panthers fall to Lakers, suffer first conference loss of season

Park Rapids won matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but Detroit Lakes won the other five matches en route to a 5-2 Mid-State Conference boys tennis victory Thursday at the Depot Courts.

Alex Renner posted a straight-set win at No. 1 singles while Mitch Fossen and Scott Smith rallied for a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to lead the Panthers, who fell to 2-1 in conference matches and 2-6 overall.

Detroit Lakes 5, Park Rapids 2

No. 1 singles: Alex Renner, PR, over Isaac Fondrick 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2 singles: Jesse Meyer, DL, over Chris Shaw 6-0, 6-0.

No. 3 singles: Alex Fondrick, DL, over Jeff Dickinson 6-0, 6-1.

No. 4 singles: Andy Schupp, DL, over Matt Sullivan 6-0, 6-1.

No. 1 doubles: Mitch Fossen/Scott Smith, PR, over Garret Duncan/Derick Brehm 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

No. 2 doubles: Ethan Brekke/Cody Jordan, DL, over Calvin Bateman/ Steven Osterman 6-0, 6-0.

No. 3 doubles: Collin Harris/Tom Warweg, DL, over Iain Wallace/Jaden Olson 6-0, 6-4.
