Panthers earn second win of season

Morgan Koppelman and Emma Berghuis won events in leading the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis gymnastics team past Morris.

Morgan Koppelman took first place in floor exercise and on balance beam to capture the all-around title while Emma Berghuis finished first in vault as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis gymnastics team earned its second victory of the season by defeating Morris at the Area High School gym on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Koppelman’s 8.70 in floor and 8.35 on beam led to a 32.85 all-around score while Berghuis’ 8.75 in vault sparked the Panthers to a 120.70-117.85 victory.

The Panthers received a 33.60 in vault as Koppelman’s 8.60, Natalie Berghuis’ 8.25 and Shailyn Hayes’ 8.00 completed the team score. Erica Johnson added a 7.70.

Following Koppelman in floor were Hayes with a 7.90, Emma Berghuis with a 7.65 and Johnson with a 7.50 for a 31.75 team score. Natalie Backmann had a 7.15.

Hayes’ 7.25 and a pair of 7.00s by Johnson and Natalie Berghuis gave the Panthers a 29.60 team score on beam. Ally Holmer received a 6.00.

Morris’ Callie Snell took first on uneven parallel bars with a 7.25 while Koppelman’s 7.20, Holmer’s 6.75, Johnson’s 6.40 and a pair of 5.40s by Emma Berghuis and Backmann led to a 25.75 team score for the Panthers.

Johnson finished third in all-around with a 28.60 as the Panthers improved to 2-5 in dual meets.

Morris defeated the Panthers 102.70-84.80 in the junior varsity meet.
