Crookston backed up its No. 8 ranking in the latest state Class A boys tennis poll by defeating Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes by 6-1 scores during a triangular meet Thursday at the Depot Courts.
Ben Baumgartner and Alex Boys prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to account for Park Rapids’ only win against the Pirates. Crookston won the other six matches in straight sets.
Jeff Dickinson and Nick Lopez coasted in straight sets at No. 1 doubles while Baumgartner and Boyd prevailed in another tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to lead the Panthers against Detroit Lakes. Nolan Booge lost in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles as the Panthers fell to 1-4 in dual meets.
