Matt Bade and Chase Brand scored two goals apiece as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team edged Wadena-Deer Creek 5-4 in a Mid-State Conference battle Thursday night at Wadena.
Despite dominating the first period with a 20-5 advantage in shots, the Panthers trailed 1-0 as Michael Behl scored at the 3:12 mark.
Bade’s power-play goal 1:08 into the second period tied the game. Micah Barrett assisted on that goal. After Blaine Cooper gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead at the 4:23 mark, goals by Bade and Brand gave Park Rapids a 3-2 lead. Erik Pittorf and Matt DeLaHunt assisted on Bade’s goal at the 15:15 mark while Cole Coborn and Connor Kennedy had assists on Brand’s goal at the 16:00 mark. Dylan Phillips scored 13 seconds later to tie the game at 3-3.
Dylan Weaver and Brand scored 14 seconds apart midway through the third period to give the Panthers the win. Miller and DeLaHunt assisted on Weaver’s goal at the 8:32 mark and Kennedy had an assist on Brand’s goal at the 8:46 mark. Phillips scored a power-play goal at the 9:23 mark to conclude the scoring.
The Panthers finished with a 42-23 advantage in shots as W-DC went 1 for 6 on the power play. Ben Naugle made nine saves on 12 shots in the first two periods while Austin Jerger made 10 stops in the third period for his first varsity victory.

Park Rapids improved to 2-1 in the conference play and 2-3 overall while W-DC fell to 1-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
