Panthers defeat Pelican Rapids, sweep Mid-State doubleheader at Staples

     A sweep over Staples-Motley Tuesday lifted the Park Rapids baseball team into a share of first place in the Mid-State Conference standings.

     Park Rapids followed a 15-9 victory at Pelican Rapids Monday by sweeping the Cardinals 15-2 in six innings and 10-2 at Staples on Tuesday.

     The sweep lifted Park Rapids to 7-1 in the conference and 10-2 overall. Perham is also 7-1 in conference play.

 

Panthers defeat Pelican Rapids

     The Panthers scored in six of the seven innings to defeat Pelican Rapids.

     Singles by Jordan McCollum, Rilee Johnson and Derek Porozinski sparked a three-run first inning while a double by Porozinski and singles by Matt Bade and Chase Brand sparked a five-run third inning. A double by McCollum and a single by Drew Bade led to a three-run fifth before singles by Brad Eischens and Tyler McCollum set up a two-run single by Jordan McCollum in the seventh.

     Jordan McCollum went 4 for 5 and Porozinski went 3 for 3 to pace the Panthers’ 15-hit attack.

     Pelican Rapids fell to 4-5 on the season.

Panthers sweep Cardinals

     The Panthers belted out 13 hits in each game for the sweep at Staples.

     In the first game, Johnson’s RBI double in the first; a double by Jon Burlingame and Brand’s RBI single in the second; a double by Josh Severtson, an RBI single by Drew Bade and an RBI triple by Porozinski in the third; Jordan McCollum’s RBI single in the fourth; and Jordan McCollum’s two-run double, Severtson’s RBI double, and two-run singles by Porozinski and Burlingame in an eight-run sixth sparked the Panthers’ offense.

     Jordan McCollum, Severtson, Porozinski, Burlingame and Brand all had two hits and combined for 10 runs and nine RBI. Tyler McCollum picked up the win.

     In the second game, four pitchers combined on a one-hitter while Johnson’s RBI single in the first; RBI singles by Tyler McCollum, Connor Byer and Brand in the fourth; Johnson’s RBI single in the fifth; Drew Bade’s RBI double in the sixth; and Byer’s RBI single in the seventh sparked the offense. Drew Bade, Johnson, Byer and Brand had two hits apiece while Jordan McCollum earned the win.

     Staples-Motley fell to 3-5 in the conference and 4-8 overall.
