After having to forfeit four matches early, the Park Rapids wrestling team relied on three forfeits late to rally for a 40-39 win over Mahnomen-Waubun in the regular-season finale at Waubun on Feb. 12.

Eli Burton's first-period pin at 106 pounds and Henry Thorson's forfeit win at 113 gave the Panthers a quick 12-0 advantage. Four forfeits and a pin in the next six matches gave Mahnomen-Waubun a 30-18 lead. Daryl Etter received a forfeit win at 132 for the Panthers.

Kaden Safratowich's takedown in the first period, takedown and two nearfalls in the second period, and a pair of reversals in the third period led to a 13-2 major decision at 160 that started Park Rapids' comeback. Forfeit wins by Cody Dravis at 170, Jack Hensel at 182 and Kian Scott at 195 gave the Panthers a 40-30 lead.

Mahnomen-Waubun won the final two matches, but Hunter Carnell battled to a minor decision loss at 285 to give the Panthers the win.

The win gave the Panthers a 3-16 overall record in dual meets while M-W fell to 2-16. Park Rapids received the No. 9 seed for the Section 8AA tournament and will open against No. 8 Fergus Falls Feb. 16 at Thief River Falls.
