Pachel makes 73 saves in regular-season finale

Goalie Kylee Pachel made 73 saves as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team ended the regular season with a 6-0 loss to Eveleth-Gilbert at the Walker Area Community Center on Jan. 26.

Goalie Kylee Pachel made 73 saves as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team ended the regular season with a 6-0 loss to Eveleth-Gilbert at the Walker Area Community Center on Jan. 26.

The Golden Bears outshot Park Rapids 79-7, including 29-2 in the first period, 21-3 in the second period and 29-2 in the third period. The Panthers were shut out for the ninth time this season in falling to 0-20.

Eveleth-Gilbert opened the scoring 18 seconds into the game on a goal by Kylie Baranzelli and followed with Sophia Flatley's goal 1:14 later. Anneka Lundgren's goal at the 8:34 mark gave the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead after the opening period. Katie Scherf's power-play goal at the 14:26 mark of the second period made it 4-0 before goals by Baranzelli at the 2:08 mark and Kada Ceglar at the 15:08 mark in the third period concluded the scoring.

Lundgren and Anna Seitz had three assists each as Eveleth-Gilbert improved to 10-10-3. The Golden Bears defeated Park Rapids 3-2 on Dec. 8.

Park Rapids had the regular-season finale against Bemidji scheduled for Jan. 29 and rescheduled for Jan. 31 at Walker canceled because of the weather.

The seeds for the Section 8A tournament will be announced on Monday (Feb. 4) with the quarterfinals starting on Thursday (Feb. 7).
