The Itasca Moraine Chapter of the North Country Trail Association has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, May 14th. Members, friends of the Chapter and the public are invited to Jimmy’s Restaurant in Walker for the meeting The social time begins at 6:00PM with the business meeting to begin at 7:00PM. Those attending will order from the menu.
The Chapter plans to recognize the trail adopters and discuss the changes for the 2015 season. A report is planned on the Hiker’s Challenge “165” which kicked off April 25th. In addition will be a report on the two “Thru Hikers” who passed through our area the last week of April. Thru Hikers are those people who hike the entire distance of the North Country Trail from Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota to Lake Champlain at the NY/Vermont border. An update is planned for the re-route plan in the Arrowhead area of northeastern Minnesota and the for the extension of the NCT in Vermont to connect to the Appalachian Trail.
Chapter finances and election of officers are on the agenda. The meeting is an excellent opportunity for the adopters to become acquainted. The are over 50 adopters who maintain the 77 miles of the trail from Itasca State Park to northeast of Remer in Cass County.
