Nine players score goals in Panthers' section wins

Nine different players scored goals as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team defeated a pair of Section 8A teams on the road.

Nine different players scored goals as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team defeated a pair of Section 8A teams on the road.

Six different players had goals in leading the Panthers to a 7-4 win over Bagley/Fosston at Bagley Thursday night.

On Saturday afternoon, the Panthers again received goals from six different players in a 9-2 win against Kittson Central at Hallock.

The two wins lifted the Panthers to 5-7 in the section and 12-10-1 overall.

A four-goal first period sparked the Panthers in the win over Bagley.

Goals by Noah MacPherson, Levi Erickson, Jamie Stewart and Cory Odland gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead after the first period. Lucas Maves, Sam Coborn and Zach Strandlie had assists as the Panthers held a 21-7 edge in shots in the first period.

Coborn's power-play goal and a goal by Frank Moren pushed the Panthers' lead to 6-1 after the second period. Ian Johnson and Kyle Kanten set up Moren's goal. The Panthers held an 18-8 advantage in shots in the second period.

Coborn scored another power-play goal to open the third period before Fosston/Bagley scored three times in a span of 4:48 midway through the period to end the scoring.

Goalie Cody Brumbaugh picked up the win by making 14 saves on 15 shots. Micah Bank had seven saves on 10 shots at the start of the third period before Brumbaugh finished up. The Panthers held a 50-25 edge in shots in the game.

Bagley/Fosston, which lost to Park Rapids 8-2 earlier in the season, fell to 0-8 against section opponents and 3-19-1 overall.

Coborn, Johnson spark win

Coborn's two goals and four assists and Johnson's hat trick and two assists led the Panthers past Kittson Central for the third time this season.

Coborn assisted on two goals and scored twice as the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. Coborn set up Erickson and Bailey Mueller before scoring on a pair of assists by Johnson, who ended the period with the Panthers' fifth goal.

After Benson Ringle scored midway through the second period, Johnson completed his hat trick with two goals within a span of 3:07. Coborn had assists on both of Johnson's goals. Lucas Maves also had an assist on Johnson's third goal.

Kittson Central scored twice early in the third period before Ringle set up MacPherson for the game's final goal.

Goalie Scott Smith made 15 saves for the win as the Panthers held a 38-17 advantage in shots.

The loss dropped Kittson Central to 2-10 against section teams and 5-19 overall. Park Rapids defeated Kittson Central by scores of 10-2 and 5-1 during the regular season.
