New York Mills rallies to defeat Park Rapids softball team
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring the winning run in the eighth for a 7-6 win.
New York Mills forced extra innings by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring the winning run with two outs in the eighth in a 7-6 victory over the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team on Tuesday, May 18.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first on a walk to Tori Weaver, an RBI double by Abby Morris and an RBI single by Shailyn Pachel.
After NYM tied the game in the third, Weaver singled and scored on Chloe Tretbar’s RBI single in the fifth for a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth before Ulvin singled with two outs and scored in the sixth. Singles by Pachel and Mickey Clark and two errors gave Park Rapids a 6-3 advantage in the seventh.
A double by Ayla Olson, singles by Gerber and Angie Weller, and two errors helped NYM tie the game in the bottom of the seventh before singles by Anna Meech and Megan Riedse set up Gerber’s game-winning hit in the eighth.
Weaver (2 for 3), Tretbar (2 for 4) and Pachel (2 for 5) accounted for six of Park Rapids’ nine hits. Tretbar took the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out five. Five Park Rapids errors led to four unearned runs as the Panthers fell to 6-8. New York Mills improved to 12-4.
