New York Mills defeats Menahga baseball team

The Braves fall to 5-3 in Park Region Conference play following a 10-5 loss.


New York Mills remained undefeated in Park Region Conference play with a 10-5 win over the Menahga baseball team on Friday, May 7.

Jack Pietila’s RBI single and Nolan Haataja’s two-run single tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth before the Eagles sealed the win by scoring five times in the bottom of that inning.

Jack Pietila (3 for 4, two runs), Haataja (2 for 3), Liam Torola (1 for 2, two runs), Eddie Salmen (1 for 4) and Aaron Pietila (1 for 3) led Menahga’s eight-hit attack. Isaiah Usher took the loss, allowing eight runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts over 4 ⅓ innings. Haataja gave up two runs on three hits in 1 ⅔ innings of relief.

New York Mills, which was rated No. 4 in the latest state Class A poll, improved to 9-0 in conference play and 11-1 overall. The Braves fell to 5-3 in Park Region games and 7-3 overall.
