Mya Stacey served five aces and set up 30 kills in leading the Nevis volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Aitkin at the Tiger Arena on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Makenna Frazier led the offense by pounding down 11 kills in the Tigers’ 25-10, 25-21, 25-19 victory.
Three kills by Frazier, two kills by Marley Mitchell and an ace serve by Stacey gave Nevis a 9-3 lead in Set 1. Kills by Maggie Carrier, Addison Lindow and Frazier were followed by a pair of kills by Kayli Bessler as the Tigers extended the advantage to 19-7. Three kills by Mitchell, kills by Ava Isaacson and Lindow, and an ace serve by Stacey helped Nevis close out the opening set.
A block and a kill by Bessler and a kill by Frazier gave Nevis a 6-4 lead in Set 2 before the Gobblers rallied to claim a 10-7 advantage. Kills by Lindow and Isaacson cut the gap to 10-9 before Aitkin took a 14-10 lead. Two kills and a block by Bessler tied the set at 15-15 before the Gobblers took an 18-16 lead. Two kills apiece by Frazier and Isaacson, a kill by Bessler, and an ace serve by Stacey sparked a 9-3 run as the Tigers closed out that set.
Frazier served two aces and had three kills as Nevis jumped out to a 12-5 lead in Set 3. Kills by Isaacson and Bessler and an ace serve by Carrier made it 17-9 before kills by Lindow, Lyra Luebbert, Bessler and Frazier and two ace serves by Stacey closed out the match.

Bessler (8), Isaacson (5), Lindow (5) and Mitchell (5) combined for 23 kills as the Tigers pounded down 36 kills to offset 20 hitting errors. Stacey (15), Lindow (13), Carrier (9), Frazier (7) and Isaacson (7) combined for 51 digs as Nevis improved to 2-0 on the season.
Jessica Much’s 21 digs and Rae Nyberg’s five kills led Aitkin in its season opener.
