The combination of 18 service aces and 30 kills powered the Nevis volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Braham at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Sept. 30.
Maggie Carrier’s five ace serves and Ava Isaacson’s 14 kills led the Tigers to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-11 win in this match between Section 5A teams.
Ace serves by Allie Forbes and Mya Stacey and kills by Isaacson, Stacey and Marley Mitchell led to a 7-7 tie in Set 1 before three ace serves by Carrier and two kills by Mitchell gave Nevis a 14-7 lead. Isaacson served two aces and had two kills as the Tigers closed out the opening set.
Isaacson had two kills and assisted on two blocks as Nevis jumped out to a 7-3 lead in Set 2. After Braham tied the set at 8-8, two kills apiece by Mitchell and Lyra Luebbert and two ace serves by Carrier gave the Tigers a 17-11 advantage. Three kills by Isaacson helped Nevis end that set.
Forbes served an ace during a 6-0 run to start Set 3. Sofie Anderson had two kills during that stretch. A kill and an ace serve by Isaacson and a pair of ace serves by Anderson gave Nevis a 13-5 advantage before a pair of kills by Isaacson and an ace serve by Mitchell made it 19-7. Two kills by Isaacson and two ace serves by Stacey ended the match.

Stacey served four aces and had 22 set assists, Forbes and Isaacson served three aces each, and Mitchell had eight kills. Forbes and Isaacson had 12 digs and Mitchell had 10 digs as the Tigers improved to 5-0 against section foes and 15-4 overall. Braham fell to 3-3 in section matches and 7-9 overall.

NYM sweeps Braves
New York Mills used 25 kills and 17 ace serves to hand Menahga a 3-0 loss in a Park Region Conference volleyball match at New York Mills on Thursday, Sept. 30.
The Braves had 32 kills, but made 22 hitting errors and nine service errors in the 25-22, 27-25, 25-20 loss.
Two kills by Janie Tormanen and two ace serves by Amanda Lake gave Menahga a 5-2 lead to start Set 1. After the Eagles took a 17-12 lead, Menahga tied the set at 22-22 behind two kills apiece by Tormanen and Lela Peterson and a kill and an ace serve by Julia Besonen. New York Mills responded with a 3-0 run to win that set.
After a kill, Tormanen served an ace during a 6-0 service run as Menahga led 7-0 to start Set 2. Two kills and an ace serve by Maryn Pinoniemi along with a block and a pair of kills by Tormanen kept the Braves in front 20-15. Kills by Michaela Skoog and Allie Pfeifer and two kills by Tormanen tied it at 25-25 before the Eagles closed out that set.
Erica Tormanen’s kill and ace serve gave Menahga a 7-4 lead in Set 3 while a kill and an ace serve by Peterson and three kills by Tormanen made it 14-10. NYM responded with a 15-6 run to end the match.
Tormanen’s 14 kills and Lake’s three ace serves and 22 set assists led Menahga’s offense. Pfeifer led the defense with 13 digs as the Braves fell to 3-3 in conference matches and 7-9 overall.
New York Mills improved to 4-0 in the conference and 9-3 overall. Henning is also 4-0 in Park Region play.
