Nevis dropped the first set before taking control to defeat Pine River-Backus 3-1 in a Northland Conference volleyball match at Pine River on Thursday, Sept. 16.
The Tigers offset 24 hitting errors and nine service errors with 42 kills in the 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16 victory.
Two kills by Kayli Bessler, kills by Makenna Frazier and Mya Stacey, and an ace serve by Ava Isaacson led Nevis to a 10-10 tie in Set 1 before PR-B closed with a 15-6 run.
Kills by Frazier, Isaacson, Bessler and Addison Lindow and an ace serve by Lindow gae Nevis a 13-6 advantage in Set 2. Four kills by Frazier helped close out that set and even the match.
Five kills by Frazier, a kill and an ace serve by Lindow, and kills by Marley Mitchell and Isaacson sparked the Tigers to a 15-8 lead in Set 3. Three kills by Isaacson made it 20-12 before a pair of kills and an ace serve by Bessler and two kills by Mitchell ended that set.

Nevis jumped out to a 14-9 lead in Set 4 behind three kills by Frazier, two kills by Isaacson, and kills by Bessler and Stacey. An ace serve by LIndow and kills by Bessler, Mitchell, Stacey and Frazier helped end the match.
Frazier’s 15 kills, Lindow’s three ace serves and Stacey’s 27 set assists led Nevis’ offense. Bessler (7), Isaacson (7) and Mitchell (6) combined for 20 more kills. Lindow (16) and Stacey (12) had double figures in digs with Stacey assisting on three blocks as Nevis improved to 2-0 in conference matches and 7-2 overall.
Hannah Barchus’ six kills and three blocks and Claire Dahl’s five kills and three blocks led PR-B, which fell to 1-2 in conference play and 3-3 overall. PR-B had 28 kills, but committed 23 hitting errors and 11 service errors in the loss.
