Two Minnesotans from Warroad are missing after their snowmobile went through the ice on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods.

The Ontario Provincial Police say in a news release that on Saturday two snowmobiles were going across the lake when they hit a patch of thin ice. Only one snowmobile made it across.

Authorities say 47-year-old Wayne Windahl and 16-year-Jeremy Windahl remained missing on Monday. A dive team was looking for them. Brenda (Holmer) Windahl, the wife of Wayne and mother of Jeremy, is from Frazee.

From a trail on Cyclone Island, the Windahls travelled onto the lake, came upon poor ice and went into the water. With them was a third man on a second snowmobile. He was able to cross the weak ice, the release states.

Cyclone Island is near Minnesota's Northwest Angle on the Canadian side of the lake.

In another accident, a dump truck went through the lake ice on Friday. The driver's body was recovered Sunday in about 25 feet of water. He's 68-year-old Allen Elleson of Angle Inlet, at the northernmost point in Minnesota.
