An 11-run seventh inning powered Midway to a 16-5 Lake and Pine League amateur baseball victory at Nimrod Sunday afternoon.
Nimrod scored once in the first, three times in the second and once in the fourth to claim a 5-3 lead before the Snurdbirds rallied by following a two-run sixth inning with the outburst in the seventh to end this game early via the 10-run rule.
Midway belted out 16 hits with Drew Rasmussen (3 for 6, four runs, two RBI), Jake Lund (3 for 5), Steve Wetterling (2 for 4, three runs, two RBI), Mike Baso (2 for 4, one run, two RBI) and Cory Odland (2 for 3, three runs) leading the offensive attack. Chris Baso (1 for 3, three runs), Jack Herman (1 for 1, one RBI), Brett Dormanen (1 for 4), Bobby Lusti (one run), Ray Mueller (1 for 1, one run) and Stetson Burkman (one RBI) also aided the offense. Rasmussen, Wetterling and Odland blasted doubles.
Lund earned the win with 5.1 innings of relief. Lund allowed one unearned run on five hits while striking out nine. Burkman started and gave up four earned runs on six hits over the first 1.2 innings.
The win lifted Midway to 12-1 in league play and 15-5 overall.
The Snurdbirds were held to eight hits in a 13-0 seven-inning loss at Pelican Rapids last Saturday.
Rasmussen and Chris Baso both went 2 for 4 while Sean Dormanen, Brett Dormanen, Burkman and Herman had the other hits. Rasmussen, Chris Baso and Herman had doubles.
Sean Dormanen started and took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four over the first 2.2 innings. Brett Dormanen gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts over the next 2.1 innings while Herman pitched the final 1.1 innings and issued five runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Pelican Rapids scored three runs in the second, four runs in the third, single runs in the fourth and fifth, and four runs in the seventh.
Midway concludes the regular season by hosting the Minneapolis River Rats today (Saturday) and travelling to Staples in the Lake and Pine League finale Sunday. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.
