Two wild pitches allowed Robert Weaver and Bobby Lusti to score in the fourth inning as the Midway Snurdbirds edged Wolf Lake 2-1 in a Lake and Pine League amateur baseball game Sunday afternoon at Wolf Lake.
Wolf Lake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Derek Pihlaja walked and scored on a single by Jake Galbrecht.
Jake Lund opened the fourth inning with a single before being forced out at second on a grounder by Weaver. After Lusti doubled, two wild pitches gave the Snurdbirds the lead.
Midway finished with six hits with Lusti going 2 for 4. Zach Etter, Drew Rasmussen and Sean Dormanen had the other hits. Stetson Burkman picked up the win by allowing one run on eight hits with five strikeouts over seven innings. Lund struck out five over the final two innings for the save as the Snurdbirds improved to 9-0 in league play and 12-2 overall.
Midway and Wolf Lake will meet again Friday night at Menahga at 7:30 and the Snurdbirds will return to Menahga Sunday afternoon at 1:30 to play Huntersville.
