Menahga baseball team closes out regular season with a win

The Braves defeated Pillager 8-2 to improve to 10-4 in Park Region Conference play and 16-4 overall.

Menahga closed out the regular season with an 8-2 Park Region Conference baseball victory at Pillager on Wednesday, May 26.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Jack Pietila’s RBI single and made it 5-1 in the second when two walks, two errors and Nolan Haataja’s two-run double with two outs led to four runs.

A three-run fourth frame pushed the lead to 8-1. A double by Haataja, an RBI double by Henry Salmen and a double steal capped off the scoring for the Braves.

Menahga finished with six hits with Haataja (3 for 3) and Henry Salmen (2 for 4) leading the way. Eddie Salmen earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks with six strikeouts over the first six innings. Pietila pitched the seventh.

The win gave Menahga a 10-4 record in conference play and a 16-4 overall mark while the Huskies fell to 5-9 in Park Region play and 5-15 overall. The Braves finished third in the conference standings behind New York Mills (13-1) and Wadena-Deer Creek (12-2).
