Mady Maninga earns medalist honors at Sandtrap

The Park Rapids girls golf team finished first in the first Northern Pines Conference meet of the season.

Mady Maninga earned medalist honors in leading the Park Rapids girls golf team to first place in the first Northern Pines Conference meet of the season.

Maninga carded a 40 at Cass Lake’s Sandtrap Golf Course on Tuesday, April 27. United North Central’s Alayna Day and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley’s Kianna Johnson shared runner-up honors with 44s.

Rounding out Park Rapids’ winning three-golfer team score of 144 were Anna Eckmann with a 50 and Emily Schulz with a 54. Lexi Usher (60), Emma Vrieze (61) and Natalie Backmann (69) also competed for Park Rapids.

Nevis finished fourth with a 199 behind Sarah Boettcher’s 60, Sofia Anderson’s 57, Caley Muller’s 92 and Anna Cummins’ 97.

DL wins at Cragun’s

Evan Westrum carded a 3-over par 39 in leading Detroit Lakes to the team title at the Cardinal Invitational at Staples’ Cragun’s Legacy Course on Monday, April 26.


The Lakers carded a four-golfer score of 172 in the nine-hole tournament. Elk River was second with a 199 while Park Rapids placed fifth out of six teams with a 225.

Leading the Panthers were Maninga’s 46, Eckmann’s 55, Schulz’s 61 and Usher’s 63. Vrieze added a 67 and Backmann carded a 69.
