MacPherson's five goals help Panthers escape with OT win

Noah MacPherson scored twice in the final three minutes of regulation and scored his fifth goal of the game in overtime to give the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team a 6-5 win over Bagley/Fosston at Bagley Thursday night.

The Panthers weren't able to put together a late rally Saturday afternoon at Hallock as Kittson Central scored four times in the third period to seal an 8-2 win over the Panthers.

The split against the two Section 8A opponents left the Panthers with a 6-7-1 record against section teams and a 13-8-3 overall record.

Panthers escape with win in OT

MacPherson's timely scoring helped the Panthers avoid an upset at Bagley.

Despite finishing with a 53-21 advantage in shots, the Panthers needed MacPherson's late-game scoring to escape with the win.

The Flyers scored three times in a span of a minute to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. Park Rapids opened the game on Luke Jaeger's shorthanded goal 6:40 into the game. Dylan Weaver received an assist on that play. Bagley then tied the game on Aaron Leintz's goal at the 10:04 mark and followed with Zach Thoma's goal at the 10:25 mark and Sean Lavine's goal at the 11:02 mark to take the lead.

MacPherson scored 3:18 into the second period before tying the game at the 5:12 mark. Kade Navritil received on assist on MacPherson's first goal. Lavine scored at the 12:07 and 16:03 marks to give the Flyers a 5-3 lead entering the final period. Park Rapids had a 21-8 advantage in shots in that period. Bagley goalie Andrew Gebhardt made 33 saves in the first two periods to give the Flyers the lead.

Bagley maintained that lead until MacPherson scored with 2:55 to play and forced overtime with another goal with 40 seconds remaining.

Jamie Stewart received an assist on MacPherson's game-winner 2:14 into overtime.

Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh finished with 16 saves while Gebhardt tallied 47 saves as Bagley fell to 2-7 against section teams and 7-14-1 overall.

Kittson Central coasts to win

Nick Kasprowicz tallied a hat trick and Tucker Cosley made 25 saves in leading Kittson Central past the Panthers.

After Connor Kennedy assisted on a goal by MacPherson 3:27 into the game, Kittson Central used a pair of goals by Dalton Klegstad and a goal by Kasprowicz to take a 3-1 lead after the first period.

Kasprowicz opened the second period with a goal before Kennedy and Jeff Jacobson received assists on a goal by Ian Johnson as the Panthers trailed 4-2 entering the final period.

Kittson Central controlled the third period with an 18-4 advantage in shots as goals by Kasprowicz, Billy Thorsteinson, Alex Strege and Alex Vagle sealed the win.

Kittson Central finished with a 38-27 advantage in shots in improving to 7-6 against section opponents and 14-8 overall.
