Despite having its best offensive output of the season last Friday night at Sebeka, the United North Central football team wasn’t able to pick up its first win of the season.

The Warriors compiled 238 yards in offense, but fell short in a 32-27 Prairie Conference North loss to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.

Tommy Geisenhof hit Jacob Harvey on a 36-yard scoring route in the first quarter and Alex Lemke rushed for a 5-yard TD as LP-GE took a 12-0 lead.

Kirby Hrdlicka’s 39-yard TD run and Tristan Palmer’s kick pulled UNC to within 12-7 at the half.

The Thunder extended the lead to 18-7 on Harvey’s 28-yard TD reception, but Tom Tellers returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards to make it 18-13. Geisenhof found Cody Marcyes on a 38-yard TD pass to give LP-GE a 24-13 lead entering the fourth quarter.

After a safety made it 26-13, Tellers hit Thane Dailey on a 59-yard scoring route and ran in the conversion as the Warriors trailed 26-21.

Geisenhof’s 15-yard TD pass to Harvey gave LP-GE a 32-21 advantage before Tellers hit Dailey on a 56-yard TD pass to conclude the scoring.

Dailey caught two passes for 115 yards while Hrdlicka rushed eight times for 76 yards and Tellers gained 41 yards on 10 carries as UNC fell to 0-3 in the conference and 0-5 overall.

LP-GE improved to 2-1 in the conference and 3-2 overall.

“It was a great game in a great atmosphere. Both teams played very hard for all four quarters,” said UNC head coach Jeremy Nordick. “I felt we had great opportunities throughout to win the game. Offensively, we just had too many turnovers and defensively we didn’t get off the field on a couple of key fourth-down plays. We’re still looking to put together a full four quarters of football. This group has no quit in them. Although our record doesn’t say it, I feel that our young guys have improved every week.”
