Wes Mumm's 3-pointer started a 21-8 run as Pequot Lakes broke open a tie game en route to a 59-51 Mid-State Conference victory over the Park Rapids boys basketball team Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.
The Panthers, who trailed 21-15 at the half, used a 3-pointer by Tyler McCollum to tie the game at 31-31 with 12:20 to play and used back-to-back baskets by Chris Goplerud to stay within 36-35 with 9:35 left before Pequot Lakes went on a 16-4 run to claim a 52-39 advantage with 2:22 remaining.
Park Rapids' comeback fell short as Jordan McCollum hit a 3-pointer and layup, Tyler McCollum hit two free throws, Rilee Johnson scored inside and Zach Jewison converted a three-point play down the stretch.
Jordan McCollum led the Panthers with 14 points, Tyler McCollum added 12 points and Johnson had four assists and three steals. Goplerud led the way with four rebounds as the Panthers fell to 0-3 in the conference and 1-5 overall.
Jordan Redmond finished with a game-high 22 points and Travis Jacobson added 17 points as Pequot Lakes improved to 2-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
