Jada Landis was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 1.4 seconds remaining and hit two free throws to give Blackduck a 53-51 Northwoods Conference win over the Nevis girls basketball team at the Tiger Arena on Friday, Feb. 7.
Blackduck led the entire game before Emily Funk hit a 3-pointer with 7:30 to play to give the Tigers a 41-40 lead. The rest of the game featured six lead changes and two ties before Landis hit the game-winning free throws.
The Drakes expanded an 8-2 lead to 16-6 and 24-14 before Nevis began its comeback. A 3-pointer by Addison Lindow, a basket off a rebound by Ava Isaacson and a jumper by Kayli Bessler pulled Nevis to within 18-14 before the Drakes extended the lead to 24-14. Makenna Frazier scored off a rebound, Funk and Lindow hit jumpers, and Frazier scored on a layup as Nevis trailed 28-22 at the half.
A layup by Kia Heide and two jumpers by Isaacson cut the gap to 31-28 before Blackduck pushed the lead to 38-30. Layups by Isaacson and Funk and a jumper by Heide made it 38-37 before Funk’s 3-pointer gave the Tigers their first lead. Nevis regained leads of 43-42 on Heide’s jumper, 46-44 on Frazier’s three-point play, 48-47 on Lindow’s jumper and 51-49 on Lindow’s layup with 44 seconds to play. Marlori Burmeister’s layup with :18 remaining tied the game at 51-51 before Landis gave Blackduck the win.
Frazier’s double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five steals led the Tigers. Isaacson and Lindow also scored 10 points apiece while Lindow had seven rebounds and Heide had five assists as Nevis fell to 4-9 in conference games and 5-17 overall.

Blackduck was led by Macy Flatness’ 20 points and 16 rebounds. Landis added 12 points as the Drakes, who defeated Nevis 59-41 in the season opener on Nov. 27, improved to 9-5 in the conference and 15-8 overall.
