The annual Kids Fishing Derby held at the Red Bridge has been canceled.

Family illnesses caused the longtime founders to cancel this year's event, which would have been the 12th annual.

"We're so sorry," said co-founder Kim Petrie. "We'll try to get it up and running next year."

The annual event is a big hit with young anglers, who get a free rod and reel, a hot dog lunch, beverages and prizes.

The tournament was to be held this Saturday, July 28.
