Kyle Kanten's hat trick led the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team to a penalty-marred 6-1 victory over Greenway Saturday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Sam Coborn opened the scoring 1:51 into the game and Kanten followed with a pair of goals to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead after the first period. Ian Johnson and Coborn assisted on Kanten's power-play goal at the 11:38 mark and Kanten followed with another goal at the 14:52 mark. The Panthers held a 16-5 edge in shots in the opening period.
Park Rapids controlled the second period with a 22-7 advantage in shots. Frank Moren's power-play goal at the 3:21 mark and Zach Strandlie's goal at the 10:55 mark gave the Panthers a 5-1 lead. Levi Erickson and Johnson had assists on Moren's goal.
Kanten completed his hat trick with a breakaway goal with :01 remaining to cap the scoring. The Panthers held a 15-6 edge in shots in the final period, which saw 10 penalties whistled.
Park Rapids goalie Scott Smith made 17 saves for the win as the Panthers finished with a 53-18 advantage in shots. The Panthers converted 2 of 12 power-play opportunities while Greenway went 0-for-10 on the power play.

The win lifted Park Rapids to 10-9-1 on the season while Greenway fell to 9-12.

Red Lake Falls used a 44-24 advantage in shots on goal to spark a 4-1 Section 8A win over the Panthers Thursday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Andrew Jahnke's goal with :04 remaining in the first period gave Red Lake Falls a 1-0 lead.
Goals by Joe Berberena, Jacob Ness and Jahnke pushed Red Lake Falls' lead to 4-0.
Lucas Maves and Moren set up Coborn for the Panthers' lone goal at the 7:53 mark of the second period.
Red Lake Falls goalie Cole Larson made 23 saves while Smith finished with 40 saves. The win lifted Red Lake Falls to 7-5 against section teams and 12-9 overall while the Panthers fell to 3-6 in section games.
