Tom Jenkins and Kevin Krigbaum used two consistent rounds to capture their fourth consecutive Two-Man Best Ball/ Scramble Tournament title at Headwaters Country Club Sunday.
The Bemidji duo opened Saturday's 18 holes of best ball play with a 64 and followed with a 62 during Sunday's 18 holes of scramble play for a two-day total of 126. Troy Johnson and Al Egge made a late charge Sunday with a 60, but fell two shots short and settled for runner-up honors at 128.
Jenkins and Krigbaum led from the start as birdies on No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 8 led to a 31 on the front side Saturday before birdies on No. 15, No. 16 and No. 18 sparked a 33 on the back side for a 64.
That gave Jenkins and Krigbaum a one-stroke lead over Todd Hallett and Bill Forbrook, who opened with a 65. Six teams - Josh Sherlin and Justin Buysse, Clint Cornell and Danny Anderson, Tadd Usher and Jeff Falk, Dan Frie and Rick Frieburg, Mark Frie and Jim Dubow, and Geoff Martinson and Ryan Holte - were three shots back at 67.
During Sunday's scramble, Jenkins and Krigbaum used birdies on No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, No. 8 and No. 9 for a 30. Sherlin and Buysse birdied every hole except No. 5 and No. 8 for a 29 while Egge and Johnson used five straight birdies to open the day with a 30.

On the back side, Jenkins and Krigbaum overcame a bogey on No. 11 with back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and 14 and an eagle on No. 15. A birdie on No. 18 capped a 32 and sealed the win. Egge and Johnson climbed into second place with birdies on No. 10, No. 11, No. 14, No. 15, No. 16 and No. 18 for a 30 and a 12-under par 60. Sherlin and Buysse carded a 33 on the back side for a 62 to finish in third place with a 129. Cornell and Anderson used a 63 on Sunday to finish fourth at 130.
Tying for fifth place in this 36-team field at 131 were Usher and Falk, Frie and Frieburg, and Chuck Lundeen and John Ouren. Frie and Dubow tied Martinson and Holte for eighth place at 132 while Hallett and Forbrook finished 10th with a 133.
In the handicap division, John Shirkey and Brian Engler prevailed in a sudden-death playoff to win the title.
Shirkey and Engler tied Doug Dufty and Keith Gillesshammer at 127 after 36 holes before carding a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the title.
Tying for third place at 128 were the duos of Mick Marjama and Gary Marjama, Jim Talbot and Ed Talbot, and Jeff Danicich and Tim Jaynes. Jerry Wisuri and Terry Ristinen finished sixth while Ron Usher and Tim Usher tied Ron Husby and Jeff Massie for seventh place. Sharing ninth place were the Keith Mueller/Mike McDowell, Jim Heeren/Lefty Anderson, Bob Jamison/Dave Kloss, Bruce Lund/Alex Griffith and Randy Hanson/Terry Hanson duos. There were 38 teams competing in the handicap division.
Brandon Riddering won the closest to the pin contest on hole No. 3 Saturday while Jon Lundborg and Tom Welle were closest to the pin on hole No. 11 Sunday.
