Nevis’ McKenzie Harris and Olivia Toft made history at Monday’s Section 6A girls golf tournament at Perham’s Lakeside Golf Club.
Both golfers carded 100s to tie for fourth place and qualify for the state Class A tournament, which will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Becker’s Pebble Creek Golf Course.
This marked the first time Nevis will be sending two golfers to state. Harris became only the second member of the Nevis girls golf team to qualify for state last year while Toft earned her first trip to state.
Nevis finished fourth as a team with a 448. Sam Wormley carded a 120 while Josey Umthun carded a 128. Kaylee Halik added a 139.
Ottertail Central claimed the section title with a 429 while Mahnomen/Waubun’s Ashley Schoenborn and Pillager’s Jenna Pettit led the field with 96s.

Nevis qualified for the section meet by carding a 460 at the South Subsection 6A meet at Perham. Harris’ 100, Toft’s 119, Wormley’s 119 and Halik’s 122 comprised the Tigers’ team score. OTC took first with a 414, Norman County was second with a 435 and Mahnomen/Waubun was third with a 448.
For the boys, Nevis’ Daniel Stacey finished 18th at Monday’s Section 6A meet with a 90. Stacey qualified for the section meet by carding a 93 at the subsection meet. Nevis finished third at the subsection meet with a 389 as AJ Pappas’ 97, Jacob Jordan’s 97 and Gunnar Netteberg’s 102 rounded out the Tigers’ team score.
