Surpassing season highs in floor exercise and balance beam helped the Park Rapids-Nevis gymnastics team surpass another season high team score.

The Panthers surpassed 30 points in three events for the second meet in a row in a 151.075 to 123.825 loss at Detroit Lakes Tuesday night. The 123.825 surpassed Park Rapids' previous season high of 120.20 and was the team's best score since receiving a 124.90 at the 2009 Section 8A meet.

Park Rapids excelled in floor exercise with a 32.875 behind Erin Tooker's 8.50, Katie Eischens' 8.40, Olivia Fischer's 8.375 and Abby Kirlin's 7.60. Detroit Lakes' Cora Okeson took first with a 9.65.

On balance beam, the Panthers received a 31.50 with Fischer's 8.30, Eischens' 7.90, Kirlin's 7.80 and Tooker's 7.50 leading the way. Peyton Jernberg won the event with a 9.675.

The Panthers' best event was vault where Fischer's 8.60, Kirlin's 8.30, Tooker's 8.15 and Jasmine Cease's 7.90 led to a 32.95. Okeson took first with a 9.70.

Thia Olds led the field on uneven parallel bars with a 9.60 while Tooker's 7.50, Fischer's 7.10, Eischens' 6.70 and Kirlin's 5.20 led the Panthers to a 26.50.

Detroit Lakes, which is rated No. 1 in the latest state Class A poll with a 150.63 average, received marks of 38.15 in vault, 38.10 in floor, 37.475 on beam and 37.35 on bars.

Okeson won the all-around title with a 37.90 while Jackson Hegg was second with a 37.20. Fischer took third with a 32.375, Tooker was fourth with a 31.65 and Kirlin was fifth with a 28.90 as all three Park Rapids gymnasts hit season high scores.

"We are so pleased with the results," said Park Rapids head coach Rebecca Penning, whose team is 1-6 in dual meets this season. "I loved how they approached the meet with confidence and focus. The girls performed fantastically and had fun doing it."
