Park Rapids girls repeat as conference champs

Chloe Johnson and Madison Johnson locked up spots on the First Team in helping the Park Rapids girls golf team repeat as Northern Pines Conference champs.

The Johnsons both carded 43s to share medalist honors on the front side as the Panthers won the fourth NPC meet at Castle Highlands on Tuesday, May 14. Despite tying for second place on the back side, the Panthers easily repeated as conference champs by winning four of the five 9-hole meets.

Olivia Ulvin's 52 gave the Panthers a three-golfer score of 138 on the front side. Bigfork was a distant second with a 153. Nevis took fourth with a 168 behind Sofia Anderson's 50, Kaylee Halik's 51 and Megan Lindow's 67. United North Central was fifth with a 178 as Alayna Day's 56, Hope Shepersky's 58 and Elly Hillukka's 64 comprised the Warriors' team score.

On the back side, Pine River-Backus won the final NPC meet with a 141 while Park Rapids and Bigfork tied for second with 150s. Mady Maninga's 47, Ulvin's 51 and Chloe Johnson's 52 led the Panthers.

UNC used Day's runner-up 44, Shepersky's 54 and Hillukka's 64 to place fourth with a 162 while Nevis placed sixth as Anderson's 55, Halik's 57 and Lindow's 79 led to a 191. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte's Justine Day earned medalist honors with a 40.

Chloe Johnson, who was the medalist in three of the five meets, and Madison Johnson earned spots on the First Team while Maninga and Ulvin earned spots on the Second Team. UNC's Day also earned a spot on the Second Team. Chloe Johnson led the conference with 177 strokes in her four top meets while Madison Johnson had a 193, Maninga had a 204 and Ulvin had a 208 as the Panthers compiled 6 points to win the conference title. UNC's Day had a 201 in her top four meets.

PR-B took second with 11 points and Bigfork was third with 12 points. Nevis was fourth with 28 points while Red Lake (31), UNC (32) and Kelliher-Northome (32) followed. Also playing in at least four meets were Anderson (205), Nordin (213), Halik (213), Shepersky (217), Schulz (225) and Lindow (304).
