It was a record-setting night in the final home dual meet of the season for the Park Rapids boys swimming and diving team Thursday night.
Melrose/Sauk Centre had two relay teams break pool records to spark a 111-75 victory over the Panthers, who saw Spencer Fritze break the school record in diving at the Area High School pool.
Fritze compiled 254.60 points for six dives to break the old school record of 245.25 points set by Cody Olander in 1996. MSC broke a pair of pool records by clocking a 1:32.73 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a 3:28.19 in the 400 freestyle relay. Bemidji held the previous pool records with times of 1:33.99 in the 200 freestyle relay and 3:29.10 in the 400 freestyle relay. Both times were clocked in 2009.
MSC took first in the first four events to take control early in the Panthers’ final dual meet of the season.
Tyler Breitweser, Fritze, Hunter Utke and Bobby Bruce opened the meet with a runner-up 1:51.95 in the 200 medley relay before Matthew Benson clocked a runner-up 1:58.71 in the 200 freestyle. Casmir Simonson was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.04 and Bruce took second in the 50 freestyle with a 24.78.

Fritze’s pool record was followed by Tyler Breitweser’s runner-up 206.85 points in diving before Zach Behrens took first in the 100 butterfly with a 1:07.05 and Benson won the 500 freestyle in 5:18.37.
Simonson’s runner-up 1:03.54 in the 100 backstroke and Fritze’s winning time of 1:07.31 in the 100 breaststroke closed out the meet.
Park Rapids finished with a 4-2 record in dual meets.
