Ethan Hendrickson rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two more as Menahga dominated on both sides of the ball in a 72-0 Northwest South District football victory at Red Lake on Friday, Oct. 1.
Hendrickson scored on a 41-yard run and a 29-yard run, Aaron Pietila returned an interception 52 yards for a TD and Knaylor Howard blocked a punt and returned it 15 yards for another score as the Braves led 32-0 after the first quarter.
Hendrickson hit Pietila on a 15-yard TD route and Isaiah Usher on a 16-yard scoring play to give Menahga a 48-0 lead at the half.
Hendrickson’s 27-yard TD run made it 56-0 in the third quarter before Howard’s 1-yard TD run and Paul Bernardo’s 74-yard TD scamper in the fourth quarter concluded the scoring.
Dylan Rasmussen added 37 yards rushing and led the defense with 11 tackles and one quarterback sack. Bernardo was in on five tackles and recovered a fumble, Hendrickson had four tackles and a sack, and Quincy Jantz had four tackles. Usher and Tom Pietila also intercepted passes as the Braves improved to 3-2. Red Lake fell to 0-4.
In the other Week 5 games involving district and Section 6A teams, New York Mills blanked Bagley 46-0, Pine River-Backus edged Warroad 39-30, Wadena-Deer Creek defeated Lake Park-Audubon 41-8, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley fell to Mahnomen-Waubun 46-7, Breckenridge shut out Roseau 26-0 and Underwood defeated Frazee 20-6. New York Mills (4-0) and Pine River-Backus (3-1) top the district standings while Ottertail Central (5-0), NYM (4-0), Breckenridge (4-1) and PR-B (4-1) are atop the section standings.
Menahga will host New York Mills in a district and section game this Friday night (Oct. 8) with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
