Football: RLCC's running attack sparks win over Braves

Menahga was held to 136 yards offensively in 22-8 loss.

Red Lake County Central rushed for 312 yards in a 22-8 victory over the Menahga football team at Oklee on Friday, Oct. 15.

Blane Schmitz’s 3-yard touchdown run with 8:26 to play in the first quarter and Brock Seeger’s 10-yard TD run with 7:55 remaining in the second quarter gave RLCC a 14-0 lead before Connor Korvela scored on an 8-yard TD pass from Ethan Hendrickson with 27 seconds left to make it 14-8 at the half.

Schmitz’s 3-yard TD run with 24 seconds remaining in the third quarter concluded the scoring.

Schmitz rushed 27 times for 142 yards, Seeger gained 87 yards on 19 carries and Paul Dehate rushed 16 times for 83 yards as the Rebels improved to 3-3.

Menahga was held to 136 yards offensively with Hendrickson completing 6 of 11 passes for 50 yards and rushing 13 times for 54 yards. Logan Torma added 32 yards on six carries while Korvela caught two passes for 25 yards.


Defensively, Hendrickson was in on 18 tackles, Torma made 14 tackles, Shawn Hendrickson had 13 tackles, Ryan Tolkkinen made 11 tackles and Quincy Jantz had 10 tackles as Menahga fell to 3-4.

The Braves will end the regular season by hosting Mahnomen/Waubun on Wednesday (Oct. 20) with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
