The race will go on.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 41st annual Firecracker Footrace will be a virtual race in order to hold a safe event. This year’s race won’t start and end at Park Rapids’ Heartland Park on July 4. Participants will keep track of their 5K time from any location between July 4 and July 12. Participants can run, jog or walk on the road, on Heartland Trail, on a treadmill, at the gym or at the Area High School track.

The entry fee is $25. To register, go to “” and click on “Firecracker Footrace - Virtual Run” under “Race Schedule.” Register a family or group of five or more in one order and every runner will receive $5 off the entry fee. This will be automatically applied when you place the order.

After you run your race, you will be able to enter your time at “pickleevents” or by Clicking Here anytime from July 4 to July 12. Starting July 4, there will also be a “Results” link in the toolbar to the left of the site that you will be able to click to submit your time. The “Results” link will also have an “Overall List” of everyone who has submitted a time.

T-shirts will be given out on a first come, first serve basis until gone at Heartland Park at a later date. Social distancing will be practiced to make picking up the race T-shirts as safe as possible. Runners and walkers will be notified when this will take place.

This race is the main fundraiser for the Park Rapids boys and girls cross-country and track and field teams.
