     Both Park Rapids and Midway ended the regular season with losses in Lake and Pine League amateur baseball action.

     Staples scored five times in the eighth inning to spark a 7-1 win over Park Rapids Saturday while Nimrod scored three times in the fourth inning to spark a 5-2 win over Midway Sunday.

     David Dirks plated Justin Ryan with Park Rapids’ lone run in the sixth inning as the Esox tied the game at 1-1. The Esox finished with only four hits with Dirks going 2 for 4 with a double. Justin Ryan doubled and Cory Odland singled for Park Rapids’ other hits.

     Cory Gartner started and took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits and eight walks while striking out 10 in seven innings. Odland gave up one run on three hits with three strikeouts over the final two innings as the Esox fell to 3-8 on the season.

     Midway jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Zach Etter and Drew Rasmussen scored. Steve Wetterling had an RBI.

     The Snurdbirds managed only four hits in the game with Rasmussen going 3 for 4. Chris Baso had the other hit.

     Zach Etter started and took the loss, allowing four unearned runs on six hits over four innings. Rasmussen gave up no runs on four hits in three innings while Baso allowed one unearned run on one hit in the eighth as Midway fell to 7-1 in league play and 12-11 overall. Six Midway errors led to all five Nimrod runs.

     Park Rapids opens the Lake and Pine League playoffs at Wolf Lake Saturday afternoon at 1:30 while Midway hosts Red Eye Saturday afternoon at 1:30. The double-elimination tournament continues Sunday.
