Crookston followed an 18-2 run with a 16-0 run to break open a close game in a 74-41 victory over the Park Rapids boys basketball team Thursday night at Crookston.
Park Rapids led 7-5 before two 3-pointers apiece by Todd Boerger and Chris Wavra gave the Pirates a 23-9 lead. The Panthers cut the gap to 26-17 before 3-pointers by Matt Garmen, Nick Garmen and Boerger ignited a 16-0 run as Crookston carried a 45-18 lead into the break.
The Pirates, who hit 10 3-pointers in the first half, outscored Park Rapids 29-23 in the second half.
Matt Garmen (17), Boerger (14), Luke Froeber (11) and Wavra (10) hit double figures for the Pirates, who improved to 3-1 against Section 8AA teams and overall.
Adam Herberg (8), Ben Garcelon (7) and Tristin Persons (7) combined for 22 points for the Panthers, who made only 16 of 62 shots. Jake Dickinson had six rebounds, Garcelon had two steals, and Jason Haas and Marque Cook dished out two assists each for the Panthers.

Perham defeats Panthers
Perham expanded a 14-3 lead to 44-14 at the half in a 76-29 win over the Panthers Saturday night at Perham.
Jenson Beachy (15), Martin LaFond (11) and Aaron Solberg (10) hit double figures for Perham, which had 11 different players score. The Yellowjackets, who made nine 3-pointers, improved to 3-1 overall after four section games.
Hunter Jewison (8) and Cook (6) combined for 14 points for the Panthers, who fell to 0-3 against section teams and 1-5 overall.
