Back on Nov. 23, Crookston coasted to an 8-1 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team at the Thief River Falls tournament.

The rematch Tuesday night at Crookston was a lot tougher as Catherine Tiedemann's overtime goal gave the Pirates a 3-2 win in this battle of Section 8A rivals.

Alexa Kennedy gave Park Rapids a 1-0 lead by scoring on the Panthers' first shot of the game with 5:21 to play in the first period. However, Tiedemann tied the game by scoring with 5:13 left.

Park Rapids goalie Kylee Pachel made 15 saves in the second period as the game remained tied before Nora Peterson scored with 14:17 to play to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. The Panthers forced overtime when Kiana Landt was credited with the game-tying goal on a deflection on a shot by Katie Sagen with 4:58 left in regulation.

Crookston couldn't capitalize on a power-play chance to open overtime, but Tiedemann scored on a breakaway 5:41 into the extra session to give the Pirates the win.
