After Jaxson Lund’s power-play goal in the second period tied the game, Crookston dominated the third period for a 7-2 Section 8A win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team at the Crookston Sports Center on Friday, Jan. 31.
Reed Sharp opened the scoring with a goal just 1:33 into the game before Crookston used goals by Joey Duda at the 4:45 mark and Noah Kiel at the 5:52 mark to claim a 2-1 lead.
Lund poked in his own rebound at the 5:58 mark of the second period as the Panthers capitalized on a Crookston penalty to tie the game.
The Pirates controlled the third period by holding a 29-2 advantage in shots on goal. Leyton Salentine scored the game-winner with a power-play goal 5:46 into the final period before Alex Longoria scored at the 6:34 and 12:35 marks. Goals by Jack Doda with 3:23 to play and Quinn Westlake with 2:04 to play capped off the win.
Crookston, which defeated the Panthers by the same 7-2 score on Jan. 9, held a 55-18 advantage in shots to improve to 2-9 in section games and 2-19 overall.

Goalie Ben Strandlie made 48 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-9 against section opponents and 4-17 overall.
