By Anna Ericksonaerickson@parkrapidsenterprise.com The Park Rapids community fish house is available for use on Fish Hook Lake. Volunteers got the fish house on the lake Monday despite drizzling rain. Anyone is invited to use the fish house and it is available by appointment throughout the winter. The heated fish house holds all the ice fishing necessities and fishermen are simply asked to bring bait and lunch. Those interested in using the fish house can register at Delaney’s in Park Rapids. The fish house was purchased thanks to community generosity and sponsors. All the equipment needed to fish will be at the fish house when someone arrives. It’s outfitted with fishing rods, propane heating, chairs, an underwater camera and a Vexilar depth finder. The only thing someone needs to bring is bait. Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association, Park Rapids Chapter, volunteers maintain the fish house, including heating it, drilling the holes, plowing and moving it as needed. The Darkhouse Association is a non-profit organization, relying solely on community donations in order to financially support itself, the ice house, its heat and equipment. Outside of the annual winter ice house, the association also likes to remain active in other charitable events and donations. The association recently gave out a $500 scholarship to a Menahga student. Related content All persons using the Fish house must sign-up for a time slot, before using. Sign-up can only be done in person, at Delaney’s in Park Rapids. People can have only one timeslot per group per day and no more than two bookings per week in advance. If the house is available the current day, exceptions can be made. The fish house is ADA accessible with a wheelchair ramp. Groups of all kinds have used the fish house from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Kinship, hockey groups, school districts and other groups. The person booking the fish house must have a valid driver’s license and those under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. A liability form signed before using the fish house. People using the fish house must perform an inspection of the fish house for damage and an inventory of equipment before using it. The person booking the fish house will be responsible for damages to the fish house or equipment. All applicable DNR fishing licenses are required to fish. A donation box is available when signing up, to help cover some of the cost of running this program. Families, senior citizens and other groups are invited to drop a line.By Anna Ericksonaerickson@parkrapidsenterprise.comThe Park Rapids community fish house is available for use on Fish Hook Lake.Volunteers got the fish house on the lake Monday despite drizzling rain.Anyone is invited to use the fish house and it is available by appointment throughout the winter.
