Park Rapids' Ashton Clark posted a 5-3 record at 120 pounds in helping the Minnesota Storm 2 team place first in the Freestyle Green/Yellow Division and third in the Greco-Roman Red/Blue Division at the 2018 USA Wrestling Junior National Duals, which was held June 20-23 at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
During the Greco-Roman Duals on June 20-21, Clark posted a 3-1 record. Minnesota 2 finished fifth during Pool A matches with a 41-27 loss to Iowa, a 40-28 win over Michigan 1, a 39-27 loss to Indiana and a 60-9 win over Tennessee. Michigan's Corey Gamet defeated Clark by a 10-0 technical fall and Clark defeated Tennessee's Jacob Pratt 10-1.
That put Minnesota 2 in the Red/Blue Division. Minnesota 2 opened with a 47-21 win over Kansas, defeated Michigan 2 59-10, lost to Alaska via tiebreaker 34-34 and defeated South Dakota 38-32 for third place in that division. Clark defeated Michigan's Andrew Chambel 6-5 and South Dakota's Braden Sehr 12-2 by technical fall.
That gave Minnesota 2 19th place overall out of 30 teams. Minnesota 1 finished fifth overall while wrestling in the Gold/Silver Division.
In the Freestyle tournament on June 22-23, Clark split his four matches as Minnesota 2 went 0-2 in Pool A before winning all five matches in the Green/Yellow Division.
In pool matches, Minnesota 2 lost to Washington (43-27) and Ohio 2 (33-32). Angelo Rini of Ohio defeated Clark 10-0 by technical fall.
Minnesota 2 finished first in the Green/Yellow Division by defeating Florida 37-30, Texas 1 39-30, North Carolina 60-10, Kansas 53-15 and Alaska 47-21. Clark dropped an 11-0 technical fall decision to Texas' Dominic Chavez before defeating Kansas' Kyle Sackett 12-2 by technical fall and Alaska's Gideon Hutchison 7-5 in the championship match.
Minnesota 2 finished 25th overall out of 34 teams. Minnesota 1 was the national runner-up while wrestling in the Gold/Silver Division.
Will Magaard was the other Minnesota 2 wrestler at 120. Magaard went 2-2 during the Greco tournament and 2-1 during the Freestyle tournament. Crookston's Zach Brown (106), Thief River Falls' Cade Lundeen (132) and Badger-Greenbush-Middle River's Chandler Mooney (160) also wrestled for Minnesota 2.
