Griffin Chase's 31 points, nine rebounds and two assists helped the Nevis boys basketball team remain undefeated in Northland Conference play with a 59-46 win over Cass Lake Thursday night at the Tiger Arena.

Michael Landquist added 10 points and eight rebounds while Jack Landquist had 9 points and seven rebounds as the Tigers improved to 8-0 in the conference and 15-1 overall. Tom Wormley blocked four shots and Andrew Dudley had two assists for Nevis, which moved up to the No. 6 spot in this week's state Class A poll.

Cass Lake fell to 5-4 in the conference and 13-6 overall.

"This was a bit of a trap game for us after a huge win in Red Lake. That, in addition to already having played Cass Lake twice, made for a game that never really had a rhythm to it. I thought we were a little hesitant early on and with both teams being so familiar with each other, it wasn't as if there were a whole lof of surprises. We were able to stretch the lead in the first half, but couldn't make any runs to break it open. Our defense really did the job against them as well, holding them to 21 in the half," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer, whose team led 26-21 at the half. "The second half was more of the same with neither team being able to forge any type of run. I thought the refs really let us play and that led to some chippy play and didn't really allow for any good looks at the hoop that weren't contested. Again, our defense was tough and Chase was the real difference on a night where no one could really get anything going."

NEVIS: Henry 1 0-0 2, Dudley 0 2-2 2, Chase 9 12-19 31, J. Landquist 2 5-5 9, M. Landquist 4 0-1 10, Wormley 1 3-4 5. Totals: 17 for 43 (FG), 22 for 31 (FT).
