Taylor Chase scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to lead a balance attack as the Nevis boys basketball team defeated Pine River-Backus 74-56 in a Northland Conference game Tuesday night at Pine River.
Chase also had seven steals, four rebounds and four assists. Jake Keranen scored 14 points and had nine rebounds and six assists, Gavin Becker had 12 points and three steals, and Courtland Chase chipped in 11 points and four rebounds for the Tigers, who led 33-27 at the half. Jordan Dudley had six steals ad three assists and Becker had three steals. Griffin Chase (4), Jordan Feder (4) and Dudley (3) rounded out the scoring for Nevis, which improved to 3-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall.
Beau Howard scored 18 points and Travon Pederson had 15 points for PR-B, which fell to 1-3 in the conference and 1-6 overall.
"We got off to a good start, but we didn't play too consistently late in the first half and we basically let them hang around," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "We started the second half on a nice run to put the game away."
Becker scored a career-high 25 points and had eight rebounds in leading the Tigers to a 71-35 win at Northland Remer last Friday night.

Taylor Chase added 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Courtland Chase scored 10 points and had three steals. Dudley also had three steals for Nevis, which led 40-24 at the half.
"We were able to get control of the game early and cruise to the win," said Kramer. "It was a complete team effort."
The Tigers let a 10-point lead late in the second half slip away as Blackduck rallied for a 61-58 win on Dec. 11.
Keranen had a team-high 14 points for the Tigers, who trailed 27-23 at halftime.
